Witherspoon first appeared on screen in the year 1991 as an teen. Her breakout came in 1999 with an appearance in Cruel Intentions as well as her role as Tracy Flick in the black comedy Election. She was recognized for the role of Elle Woods in the comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and the sequel, Legally Blonde 2003, as well as for her performance in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002).
